HBAF 2022 - Jackie Goes Prima Diva!

Dates

  • Sun 23 Oct 2022, 7:00pm–8:50pm

Restrictions

R14

In Association with The Small Hall Sessions.

Homegrown chanteuse Jackie Clarke (When The Cat’s Been Spayed, The Lady Killers) turns her powerhouse vocals, wicked humour and maverick entertainment style to the songs of the 20th and 21st Centuries most legendary divas. Paying homage to Judy Garland, Kate Bush, Shirley Bassey, Lady Gaga, Peggy Lee, Dolly Parton and more, expect iconic songs performed with tender soul and gleeful virtuosity.

Jackie is an all-round choice wahine made even more fabulous when accompanied by Grammy nominated pianist Stephen Small, who divides his time between playing and recording with world orchestras (London Symphony, Czech National) and NZ rock ‘n roll royalty (Hello Sailor).

Don’t miss this rollicking show of bravura song styling, dazzling frockage, pin-drop moments and plenty of laughs from a NZ dairy-fed Diva with her feet on the ground and her head amongst the stars.

The Small Hall Sessions is Jamie Macphail’s ode to the rural heart of Hawke’s Bay. By bringing high-calibre touring musicians to small halls the Sessions give rural communities a chance to see musical heavy-hitters up-close and music-lovers an opportunity to experience these precious venues in a new light.

Having brought 25 artists to Hawke’s Bay, presenting 120 nights of entertainment in 35 different community halls to nearly 6,000 people, the opportunity to present Jackie Clarke in association with the HBAF is both a proud and exciting milestone.

"I saw Prima Diva last November in an exhilaratingly jam-packed hall in Mt Eden. Jackie was sublime - I laughed, I grinned, I wept a bit. (Her version of Dolly’s “Light of A Clear Blue Morning” is to-die-for.) I have always loved Jackie’s ability to honour the music while also being playful with it, and she has really nailed that with this show - she is as much a master of her craft as the women she honours. (And oh my god, the frocks! Costume change at half-time!) Jackie sparkles and shimmers - literally and metaphorically." - Michele A'Court

"Jackie Goes Prima Diva is iconically mesmerising! Jackie never fails to take you on the journey with her, masterfully holding your attention from the first second. She never fails to move...like literally move you! out of your chair lol! Not worth missing..." - Borni Te Rongopai Tukiwaho, Kaiwhakahaere Auckland Fringe Festival

"I have always been blown away by Jackie's sublime voice and musicianship and her distinct ability to captivate an audience. Last year, I was fortunate enough to catch her one-woman show Prima Diva at Garnet Station in Westmere, Auckland. It was a sublime performance by one of New Zealand's most accomplished artists at the top of her game. I was enthralled and inspired. " - Simon Prast

“A sultry, emotionally rich evening of exceptional music… just a delight” - Kathryn Burnett

[Age: 14+ Duration: 110 mins, Including Interval]
