Council is teaming up with Pedal Ready, who deliver free cycle-skills training in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington, to run a series of bike tours using new cycling Infrastructure in Pōneke. The tours will involve using sharrows, bike-specific traffic lights, advanced stop boxes, raised bus-stop platforms, shared paths, and separated cycleways. These sessions are a great opportunity to build confidence to travel around the city safely and efficiently by paihikara (bike).

We have sessions available for both e-bike and manual bike (not electric) users. Thanks to Switched On Bikes and Wellington City Council, you can borrow a bike free of charge if you don't have access to one. If you need a trike, please book a 'Rental e-bike' ticket then email us at tours@wcc.govt.nz to enquire about availability (Please note that trikes are only available on request and are subject to availability).

The ride will start and end at Switched on Bikes on Queens Warf. Please allow 2 hours.

These rides are suitable for people who are at least 16 years old and:
- Know how to ride a bike but aren't yet travelling by bike in the city; or
- Those travelling by bike in the city but would like to gain confidence; or
- Those who want to learn how to use new infrastructure.

If you would like to learn how to ride a bike away from the road, check out the free Pedal Ready courses on their website or contact them to register your interest in a course not listed.
